Red Hat Broadens OpenShift with AI, Oracle, and Microsoft Support

Red Hat has announced significant updates to its OpenShift platform at the Red Hat Summit 2025, targeting developers with an array of new tools and partnerships. Among the major announcements was the general availability of OpenShift Lightspeed, a generative AI developed in collaboration with IBM. Microsoft and Oracle are now part of its cloud service supporters, expanding the reach of Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization, which operates on KubeVirt.

The expansion underscores Red Hat’s strategy to enhance its OpenShift offerings by making them more accessible to developers and organizations looking to transition from platforms like VMware. The Advanced Developer Suite is a central feature of this expansion, providing an internal developer portal along with tools like Red Hat Trusted Artifact Signer and Red Hat Trusted Profile Analyzer to manage software bills of materials and vulnerabilities. Red Hat’s support for OCI-formatted containers also highlights its commitment to flexibility.

Security and usability are key themes, with Red Hat introducing secure self-service capabilities through integrated templates and tools such as Podman Desktop. Additional resources like cloud-based IDEs and a toolkit for transitioning monolithic apps to OpenShift further simplify the process for developers.

Through its collaboration with Oracle, Red Hat is focusing on migrating legacy applications to OpenShift, specifically utilizing configurations that support key applications like Oracle WebLogic Server. OpenShift Virtualization has also been enhanced for Oracle Database support, showcasing a 178% growth in deployments starting in 2024. These advancements suggest a forward movement towards more comprehensive Kubernetes-based platforms, facilitating easier adoption for organizations. Red Hat’s developments reflect a commitment to evolving IT infrastructures with advanced, user-friendly, and service-oriented cloud solutions.
