Panzura Symphony Boosts Efficiency with IBM Deep Archive Integration

Significantly improving the management of cold data and reducing cloud storage costs, Panzura’s Symphony software has successfully integrated with IBM’s Storage Deep Archive. Known for its capabilities to manage large-scale unstructured data through processes such as scanning, tiering, migration, and compliance analysis, Symphony now extends its offerings by incorporating IBM’s Diamondback TS6000 tape libraries, which can store up to 27 PB of LTO-9 data accessible via an S3 front end. This collaboration is set to revolutionize data archiving by offering a more efficient on-premises solution for handling cold data while maintaining accessibility for specific requirements.

Addressing Growing Data Volumes and Cloud Fees

Sundar Kanthadai, Chief Technology Officer at Panzura, has emphasized how the integration tackles the inefficiencies associated with growing volumes of cold data and escalating cloud fees. By facilitating the automatic transfer of cold data to the on-premises tape library, the Symphony software liberates space on SSD and HDD storage devices. This mechanism ensures data remains accessible without incurring unpredictable access and egress fees, providing enterprises with greater control over their storage costs and data retrieval processes. The importance of having an efficient system for managing and retrieving archived data can’t be understated, especially as enterprises continue to accumulate vast amounts of unstructured data.

Mike Harvey, Senior Vice President at Panzura, highlights that avoiding the associated costs of public cloud storage solutions can be a game-changer for businesses. The Symphony software’s ability to integrate seamlessly with IBM’s tape storage option showcases a promising alternative that circumvents the common pitfalls of cloud storage. With unpredictable fees often acting as a deterrent, the new setup offers a reliable and cost-efficient solution that enhances overall storage management. This approach not only addresses the immediate concerns of efficient data management but also provides long-term benefits by optimizing storage utilization.

Enhancing Metadata Management

Another key feature of this integration is Symphony’s advanced data catalog, which contains embedded file metadata capable of handling over 500 different data types. This extensive catalog, accessible via API and JDBC requests, simplifies the searchability and management of massive quantities of unstructured data. Additionally, the software automates file recall and deletion processes, further streamlining data management tasks. The collaboration with GRAU Data’s Metadata Hub and IBM’s Fusion Data Catalog and Storage Fusion strengthens unified metadata management, offering a holistic approach to handling archived data.

The integration with these advanced metadata management tools underscores the value of having a robust system in place for seamless data retrieval and storage. As data continues to grow in volume and complexity, the ability to manage metadata efficiently becomes increasingly important. These functionalities ensure that businesses can maintain a high level of organization and control over their data, ultimately driving productivity and reducing unnecessary expenditure associated with data management.

Cost-Effective and Scalable Solution

Panzura’s Symphony software has made a significant leap forward in managing cold data and cutting cloud storage costs by integrating with IBM’s Storage Deep Archive. Symphony is well-regarded for its ability to handle large-scale unstructured data through scanning, tiering, migration, and compliance analysis. With this new integration, Symphony now includes IBM’s Diamondback TS6000 tape libraries. These libraries can store an impressive 27 petabytes (PB) of LTO-9 data, accessible via an S3 interface. This merge offers a fresh approach to data archiving, providing a more efficient on-premises solution for managing cold data while ensuring the data remains accessible for specific needs. Such advancements are set to revolutionize the landscape of data management and storage solutions, making it far more practical for businesses to maintain extensive archives without incurring excessive costs. This partnership between Panzura and IBM helps deliver a more streamlined approach to long-term data storage, enhancing both efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
