In a significant move to bolster Japan’s artificial intelligence capabilities, Kyndryl, an IT services spinoff from IBM, has launched a new AI private cloud in Japan, partnering with Dell Technologies and leveraging Nvidia chips. This collaboration aims to assist various sectors, including financial institutions, insurance providers, manufacturers, retail companies, and academic institutions, in deploying AI solutions. Named Kyndryl Vital AI Lab, the AI cloud will utilize Kyndryl Bridge to support end-to-end AI applications on the Nvidia AI enterprise software platform, ensuring a robust infrastructure for diverse AI initiatives.
Jonathan Ingram, president of Kyndryl Japan, highlighted the importance of a reliable and scalable environment fortified with advanced security measures to develop, test, and refine AI-powered solutions. He emphasized that this initiative is designed to provide a secure space for customers and academic institutions to create applications that adhere to stringent requirements for security, sovereignty, and data residency. This focus on security and compliance ensures that organizations can innovate without compromising sensitive information.
The collaboration with Dell Technologies brings the advanced capabilities of the Dell AI Factory into play, which includes the Dell PowerEdge XE9680L server. This server supports eight Nvidia Blackwell GPUs within a compact 4U form factor, greatly enhancing AI performance and efficiency. The expanded portfolio of the Dell AI Factory is crafted to handle AI workloads ranging from desktop to data center to cloud, providing a comprehensive solution for developing high-performance AI systems.
Additionally, Nvidia disclosed that Kyndryl’s AI cloud initiative aligns with other partnerships involving consulting firms such as Accenture, Deloitte, EY Japan, FPT, and TCS Japan. These collaborations aim to establish innovation centers across Tokyo and the Kansai metropolitan areas, further cementing Japan’s role as a leader in AI advancements. By creating these specialized environments, the initiative underscores a broader trend towards fostering AI innovation and development.
